Police have called off the search for a boy believed to have been taken by a crocodile in a Top End Aboriginal community at the weekend.
Local police, community members and Parks and Wildlife rangers had been searching for the 14-year-old at Milingimbi in Arnhem Land, about 400 kilometres east of Darwin, since Sunday.
He was last seen swimming in a creek where friends reported seeing him being bitten by a crocodile and going under water.
Two crocodiles found during the search were destroyed by rangers at the request of traditional owners and local rangers will continue to patrol the area for crocodiles.
"Unfortunately we have reached a stage where all that can be done, has been done," Superintendent Helen Braam said.
"The NT Police offer our deepest sympathy and condolences to the family of the missing boy and the community of Milingimbi.
"We also thank them for all the assistance they have provided to police under extremely trying circumstances."
